A new year begins and the team is busy analysing data for publications, responding to tender proposals, buying new field equipment, and preparing in general for the spring season, when the majority of our MMOs, PAM Operators and other specialist personnel will disperse into the field. For more regular updates, find us on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, and Digg.
Example project locations & porpoise research
Some personnel are currently working off the coast of Africa on a seismic acquisition project, while others are more locally based off the cost of Scotland. We just finished a long-term porpoise monitoring project in the North Sea, presented the results to our client, and have hopefully secured more funding for continued work in 2011-2012.
Data analyses, publications, & job application
Currently analysing data from T-PODs, C-PODs, underwater sound measurements and CTDs, for publications in prep. Submitted abstract for Cork Anthropogenic sound conference. Reviewing job applications for summer field season.
Who and what is Ocean Science Consulting Ltd?
First and foremost, we are a team of PhD-qualified marine biologists, oceanographers, marine engineers and underwater acousticians. As former research scientists in academia, we turned to industry to fund various aspects of our research. We were incorporated in 2004, under the name Appin Scientific and, in 2007 changed our name to reflect our main activities – ocean science. We undertake a range of services, specialising in underwater acoustics (the measurement and modelling of sound propagation) and bioacoustics (the noise of marine life), marine mammal observation (MMO), and passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). A large proportion of the company profits are re-invested in the research and development and scientific research. While we operate under strict non-disclosure agreements, we aim to undertake as much peer-reviewed research as possible.
Welcome to the OSC blog!
Our clients suggested that, because Ocean Science Consulting (OSC) Ltd personnel are involved in so many interesting projects worldwide, we should start a blog.
