Ocean Science Consulting (OSC) Ltd provides marine industries worldwide with, inter alia, Marine Mammal Observers (MMO), Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) Operators and PAM equipment. Recently, OSC assisted the New Zealand Government Department of Conservation (DOC) in the production and development of their new Code of Conduct, that aims to reduce acoustic disturbance to marine mammals from seismic surveys. Specifically, OSC provided expert advice on the use of PAM offshore. The DOC code stipulates, that to work in New Zealand waters, MMOs and PAM Operators must have completed a DOC accredited training course or competency assessment. Using their new book, ‘The Marine Mammal Observer and Passive Acoustic Monitoring Handbook’, as course material, OSC have compiled an assessment, and are pleased to announce they are now DOC accredited, and thus one of only four companies able to certify New Zealand MMOs and the only company able to certify New Zealand PAM Operators. The Handbook can be purchased from any good on-line book retailer e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Observer-Passive-Acoustic-Monitoring-Handbook/dp/1907807667/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1392113738&sr=1-1&keywords=victoria+todd)
