OSC will be presenting at the 24th International congress on Sound and Vibration

OSC is pleased to announce they will be presenting at the 24th International Congress on Sound and Vibration conference in London next year. The conference, being held from 23-27th July 2017, is an opportunity for scientists from around the world to share new research and technology in the field of acoustics and vibration.

Dr Victoria Todd, one of OSC’s Directors, will be presenting:

Ford, B., Jiang, J, Todd, V, and Todd, I (2017): Measurements of underwater piling noise during nearshore windfarm construction in UK: potential impact on harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and compliance with German UBA limit: 24th International Congress on Sound and Vibration. London, UK. Submitted 26/11/2016.

The study compared underwater sound measurements collected during piledriving activity for the construction of a nearshore windfarm in the UK to the threshold level issued by the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA). Sound levels were also analysed in relation to potential impact on harbour porpoise, the UK’s most widely distributed marine mammal, which is often observed near offshore installations (Todd et al., 2009).
