I have always been devoted to the fascinating field of underwater acoustics, as it is one of the most efficient ways to study the ocean. Having acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Underwater Acoustical Engineering from the top university in this field in China, I moved to the United Kingdom to pursue further studies, where I finished my Master’s and PhD in Underwater Acoustics at Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, University of Southampton.

My research primarily focuses on acoustical signal processing, underwater noise propagation modelling, acoustic source characterisation, and fibre optic acoustic sensing. At OSC, I engage deeply in acoustic propagation that involves modelling complex sound transmission pathways, examining interactions with seabed structures, water column variability, and the influence of anthropogenic activities. Additionally, I have contributed to improving methods of characterising underwater noise sources, such as shipping, construction, and renewable energy installations, providing critical data to mitigate environmental impacts on marine life.

Outside of research, I love photography (obviously from the profile pic), hiking, cars (non-electrical ones), and music (playing guitar and piano).’
