My love for animals started at a young age, inspired by watching shows such as Blue Planet and Deadly 60. I decided to pursue my passion by completing a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Care at Rodbaston College, while also volunteering at an equestrian centre and dog kennels to gain hands-on experience. From there, I went on to Bangor University to complete a BSc degree in Zoology with Marine Zoology, where I had the honour of meeting Steve Backshall, who is an honorary lecturer there. During my time at Bangor, I completed an internship with the SeaWatch Foundation on Anglesey, which taught me the basics of MMO work. In my 3rd year, I completed the JNCC Marine Mammal Observer training and broadened my skills by becoming a BDMLR Marine Mammal Medic, allowing me to help stranded marine life. After graduating, I put these skills to use at OSC by becoming an MMO/PAMO.
The sight of marine mammals in the wild never gets old! My favourite part is watching common dolphins bow ride, as they look so free and playful, or seeing Northern Gannets gather and dive while feeding. Waking up at sea to a beautiful sunrise, surrounded by marine life, is what gets me out of bed in the morning — and knowing that I am helping to protect it makes it ten times better.
