Dr Kathryn Turnbull

- Statistician

As an undergraduate in mathematics, I developed an appreciation for statistics and its importance in allowing us to develop our understanding of the world from data. This interest led me to undertake a PhD at the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training at Lancaster University and then continue my research work as a postdoc. My previous research focussed primarily on statistical analysis of network data which exhibit complex dependence structures, and this work incorporated techniques from Bayesian statistics, time series, computational statistics and geometry.

I joined OSC as a Statistician in January 2023 and this marks an exciting new stage of my career. Through my previous experience I have gained exposure to a variety of statistical techniques, and I am looking forward to applying my knowledge to a broad range of projects at OSC. I am thrilled to have an opportunity to work alongside marine scientists with the goal of protecting and mitigating risk to marine life.

Outside of work I enjoy exploring Scotland (ideally by sea kayak), playing music and crafting.
