The sea has always inspired me. I grew up in a coastal village on the West coast of Scotland where boating and observing wildlife was a part of daily life. This encouraged me to study BSc (Hons) in Marine Biology at Aberdeen University and I continued to specialise with my MSc Marine Mammal Science degree at the University of St Andrews. During my studies, I trained as a BDLMR marine mammal medic, and volunteered for various groups, including the Ythan seal watch, WDC shorewatch, and Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT).
After graduation, I joined OSC as an MMO and PAMO where I could use my knowledge within a marine consultancy. My role was extremely varied, and I was managing large teams of contractors and staff offshore, this led to my promotion to Field Manager in 2021 and I have become part of the training team at OSC.
What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunities it provides, the people I meet and work with worldwide, and the ability to be part of the mitigation process to limit harmful impacts of offshore industries.
